A group of women involved in basket weaving have come together to create a support group that helps them make a living. We are giving you the opportunity to visit them on their weaving days and do a weaving workshop.
1-1 workshop where you can interact with the ladies, hear their stories and learn a new skill.
Village Women in Kenya are usually expected to stay home, look after the children, cook and clean. These women have stood up for themselves and taken the initiative to start something for themselves. You’d be supporting this empowerment!
Be welcomed by the lovely ladies and get stuck right into the basket weaving. The women will explain and show you how to do the weaving. Feel free to ask any questions you have.
Interact with the women, through dance, stories and snacks. The ladies love guests, so be ready for a lot of excitement. Continue weaving the basket with the different methods.
If you want to purchase some baskets at super cheap wholesale prices – where all money goes directly to the ladies, this is your time to do so. Then wishing them farewell and joyful lives.
Up to you, on average people spend 1.5hours here, but if you’re enjoying it you’re welcome to carry on weaving and interacting!
Kenyan Shillings will be the most accepted as well as Mpesa (mobile money).
It is about 10 minutes away from the main Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
What a lovely experience, the ladies were delightful and learning how to weave was such fun. I’m so glad I could support these women and they’re truly inspirational.
